Dear Editor
The asylum seekers letters seem to have created quite a stir and I have been inundated with telephone calls. Many people have stopped me in the street to say they agree with me and they are pleased to see their views being aired. What I found quite astonishing was that when I said I only write letter and have no power or say in these matters and they should contact their local councillor, MP, MEP etc everyone of them retorted that they had no confidence in politicians as they were all to frightened to say anything because of the Political Correct and Bleeding Heart Brigade. Another thing was that the majority were not racist in their views most felt they should only be allowed in this country if they were legally entitled, they also wanted to know who is footing the bill.
Fear plays a major part in our opinion of illegal immigrants; some one who shall remain nameless (Editor you can have his name and address) telephoned me Monday at his wits end. On Carnival night at about 6pm there was an incident in Shakespeare Road where a young immigrant supposedly attacked someone with a large Knife and the Police were called, the caller tells me that 3 houses in that street are for illegal immigrants, all of these seem to have cars and mobiles. The caller tells me he cannot find out who owns the houses so he/she can make a complaint about the occupants, they have tried the Local Council but they do not seem to know, they should, as someone has to pay the Council Tax.
Obviously the rumour machine is in action and I expect these immigrants are living there legally etc and if you put a group of young men no matter what nationality together for any length of time you will get problems but the caller had some important issues:
1) One who does own the houses?
2) How and where do these immigrants get their money?
Surely it not racist to ask how taxpayer’s money is spent? Surely it is not racist as house owner to know who lives in the street? Surely it is not racist to suggest putting all these young men together in one street could lead to trouble? Surely it is not racist to expect the Council to keep us informed of major influx into our community? Surely it is not racist to be able to complain about unruly neighbours? Need I go on?
This Government made many promises when it was seeking election, most of which it has not kept, but one was to be open in all its dealings yet again they have failed. The bureaucrats who tried to sneak these people into town are the ones who cause the problem, if they were open and honest with people they may be surprised how much help they would get. The English people can very caring and compassionate but one thing they do not like is being taken for MUGS.
