Christmas P C 2003
Dear Editor
Once again Political Correctness has got involved in what should be a joyous occasion, I refer to the newspaper reports on the policy of the Labour Government to send greeting cards, which do not depict any Christian symbolism and the Red Cross who refuse to sell Christmas Cards, which depict Christmas as a Christian festival. Why? Because it may offend other faiths. Yet this is still a country with 90% of the population being Christian. The few people I know of different faiths think this PC is ludicrous and all them thoroughly enjoy the spirit of Christmas. All of them feel without accept ion that this type of Political Correctness only damages race relation, making people from other religions feeling ostracized from main stream Britain. Interestingly enough most of the large religions recognise Jesus as a prophet. I cannot do much about the government (well not till the next election) but I can stop any support for the Red Cross (an organisation that uses the Christian symbol of a Cross to promote itself) and I suggest other people do the same.
With more and more so called focus groups and government advisors trying to (succeeding in a lot of cases) demolish this countries Christian beliefs, standards and morals to see the reports in local papers about little children doing their School Nativity plays was like a light at the end of a dark tunnel. I say well done to all those schools that still believe in the hope and a joy of Christmas a time what should be about a new beginning. Although this is a Christian Festival its message of goodwill to all men should mean just that irrelevant of religious belief. If we could all try to stick to the 10 commandments and Christian virtues the world would be a better place and I expect those who have condemned Christmas (PC brigade) will still join in the festivities.
