Dear Editor

Mrs I Gooch (Metric so much simpler) really missed my point when I wrote about the government’s ban and criminalisation of the use of Imperial measurements was that it was about Freedom of choice something this government and the Pro European gaggle seem to reject time after time. I can not see no reason what so ever why we the people of England should not use what ever measurement we like, I expect there will be those who say it will cause confusion RUBBISH. Already we use different measurement quite happily a pub will sell you draught beer in pints, Spirits and some bottled beer are sold in centilitres or millilitres, coffee is sold by the cup, my competitors when the enter a competition with weights they use kilo’s, for height competitions they use feet and inches, when you ask a man in the street what his fuel consumption is they nearly always say miles to the gallon, ask some one their height or weight it will be feet, inches and stones, pounds, you buy strawberries by the punnett, prawns by the pint, flowers by the bunch, a hot days is one in the 80’s F and so on. Yet by 2010 the only measurements and weights will be metric and even the mentioning the words pounds, stones etc will become a criminal offence, no more buying asparagus by the bunch, no more selling coffee in unregulated cups, no more going down the pub for a pint. Of course eventually we will get use to the new system but why should we plus the cost will be horrendous. Once again it should be about choice I think that division of 16 ozs (1lb) is easier then Kilo’s ie ½ of 16 is 8, ½ of 8 is 4 and so on but I do not need a law to impose it on any one else. Metrification is just another way of the European Union and Tony Blair to impose there form of European Dictatorship on the English people. Mrs Gooch condemns the English for being obstinate and resistant to change, well I say well done the English the rest of Europe may sleep walk into a Dictatorship but we the English are wide awake at last. There is a saying “A European will only do something if he is told he can do it an Englishman will do anything until he is told not to” that type of independence from authority has made the English the greatest people to have walked Gods earth.

As for her argument how wonderful the Euro is ask the Germans and Dutch with their massive unemployment, ask them how prices trebled when the Euro came in, why not ask the English tourists how much extra they are spending going to Spain, Canaries etc. The thud, thud of the EU Jack boot is being heard daily and as time go by the thud will get louder until one day you will no longer hear it and that will be the day it has crush you.
